Apple iOS 18.3

Apple has released the third beta of iOS 18.3 for developers, introducing important updates to Notification Summaries, camera settings, Messages, and PDF editing.

These changes aim to improve user experience and address feedback from earlier versions.

Notification Summary Updates

Apple has made several changes to Notification Summaries:

Temporary Disablement: Summaries for News and Entertainment apps are turned off temporarily to address inaccuracies. Apple plans to restore this feature in a future update.

Beta Disclaimer: A warning now appears in the Notification Summaries settings, stating that summarization may change the meaning of headlines.

Italicized Text: Summarized notifications now appear in italics to help users distinguish them from standard notifications.

Easy Disable Option: Users can disable Notification Summaries for specific apps directly from the Lock Screen by swiping on a notification and selecting “Options.”

These updates are also available on iPadOS 18.3 and macOS Sequoia 15.3.

Camera Control Changes

On iPhone 16 models, Apple has renamed the AE/AF Lock toggle in Camera settings to “Lock Focus and Exposure” for better clarity.

This feature lets users lock focus and exposure with a light press and hold on the Camera Control button, mimicking DSLR cameras.

Messages Shortcut for Genmoji

The Messages app now includes a new Genmoji shortcut in the “+” sidebar. This provides quicker access to the Genmoji creation tools, previously available only through the emoji keyboard.

PDF Editing Warning

When cropping a PDF in the screenshot interface, Apple now warns users that cropped content is not permanently removed.

The message reads:
“Content outside the cropped area won’t be visible in most PDF viewers, but it can be made visible in some apps.”

iOS 18.3 Beta 3 brings practical updates that simplify features and address user concerns.

Developers are encouraged to explore the beta and report any additional changes.
