Metro Boomin is expanding his superhero universe with the launch of his new comic book series ‘The Metroverse.’ Announced on Tuesday, the literary endeavor arrives nearly two years after the rap super-producer’s No. 1 album ‘Heroes & Villains’ and his executive production on the ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ soundtrack.
‘The Metroverse’ is a visual interpretation of Metro’s musical journey portrayed through an immersive comic universe.
He collaborated with Joshua Frankel of Zero Zero and Patrick Stephens on the superhero saga, which pays homage to Metro’s love of comics. Each issue will feature illustrations by Greek artist Vasilis Lolos, known for his work on My Chemical Romance’s ‘Danger Days’ album.
It’s a dream come true to have my own comic book ‘The Metroverse’ on shelves,” said Metro Boomin. Josh and Patrick helped bring my superhero vision to life on these pages with the talented Vasilis Lolos making it pop with incredible visuals.
The first issue, ‘Metro Boomin The Rise #1,’ drops on June 14th with 4,000 standard units and 300 signed copies available. It sees Metro face off against the villainous media mogul “The Suit,” who seeks to control the city through manipulation until Metro fights back with his music.
To celebrate the launch, Metro is partnering with Complex for an immersive ‘Metroverse’ pop-up in Los Angeles on June 13th, allowing fans to purchase limited merch and comic copies. The first issue also gets an exclusive early drop on ComplexShop before its wider release.
The ambitious comic book endeavor expands Metro Boomin’s storytelling into a new visual medium, building an entire superhero universe inspired by his musical odyssey.
