The Tesla Model Y was the top-selling car in Beijing during the first half of 2025, according to data from D1EV. Tesla sold 10,649 units, beating the BYD Qin Plus, which sold 6,265 units and came in second place.

The Model Y’s strong performance shows Tesla’s continued dominance in Beijing’s electric vehicle (EV) market, even as other brands promote their own “Model Y killers.” None have matched Tesla’s numbers so far.

Sales of the Model Y rose after the launch of its updated “Juniper” version in January 2025. The new model features a refreshed design and improved features. It is priced between 263,500 and 303,500 yuan (about $39,950 to $41,400 USD), making it a popular choice among local buyers.

BYD’s Qin Plus, available as both a hybrid and a full EV, remains a strong competitor nationwide. Priced from 99,800 to 176,800 yuan ($13,942 to $24,700 USD), it offers a more affordable option, but it still fell short in Beijing’s capital market.

While BYD continues to lead in total national sales, Tesla’s success in Beijing highlights the Model Y’s strong local appeal.
