Tencent’s Weixin app, China’s largest messaging platform, has begun testing DeepSeek’s artificial intelligence model for its search feature.

This marks Tencent’s move to integrate an external AI model while continuing to develop its own Hunyuan-Large language model for Weixin.

DeepSeek, which launched last month, offers a cost-effective AI assistant with lower data usage, quickly surpassing ChatGPT in downloads on the Apple App Store.

Tencent is also exploring using DeepSeek in other products like Tencent Cloud AI Code Assistant and Yuanbao.

This integration highlights the competition in AI development, as companies like Great Wall Motor and telecom providers are also adopting DeepSeek’s technology.
