Netflix’s 2025 event brought the Duffer Brothers onto the stage to discuss the final season of Stranger Things.

According to Ross Duffer, the upcoming season will be their most ambitious yet, describing it as “eight blockbuster movies” packed into one.

Matt Duffer added that it was also their most personal story to tell, with filming being both intense and emotional for everyone involved.

While Netflix hasn’t revealed a release date for Season 5, the brothers shared that the show’s final days of production were filled with emotion.

“There was so much crying,” said Matt, emphasizing how much the show meant to the cast and crew. He believes this passion will translate to the screen.

In addition to the series, fans can look forward to “Stranger Things: The First Shadow,” a Broadway play set to open in March 2025.

The show will serve as an origin story for Vecna, the villain from Season 4, and promises to offer a live-action experience, unfolding like a mega episode of the show.

While the Duffers are working on multiple future projects, they are cautious about revealing too much. Ross Duffer said that any future Stranger Things content will need to have a reason to exist and will avoid being repetitive.

Looking ahead, the Duffers are producing shows like “The Boroughs”, set in a retirement community where older misfits battle evil, and “Something Very Bad is Going to Happen,” which explores anxiety before a wedding.
