Sony has achieved a major milestone, selling 74.9 million PlayStation 5 consoles to date, bolstered by a record 9.5 million units sold during the 2024 holiday season (Q3 2024).
This impressive sales figure surpasses the previous holiday quarter by 1.3 million units and brings the PS5 just 1.5 million units shy of the PlayStation 4’s sales at the same point in its lifecycle.
The boost in sales can be attributed in part to the launch of the PlayStation 5 Pro, though specific numbers for this version were not disclosed.
Sony also saw a rise in game sales, with 95.9 million units sold in Q3 2024, generating revenue of 784 billion yen ($5.1 billion).
With major upcoming releases like Death Stranding 2, Ghost of Yotei, and Grand Theft Auto 6, Sony remains optimistic about continued growth in 2025.
