Scarlett Johansson has spoken out against a viral AI-generated video that falsely depicted her among a group of celebrities protesting Kanye West’s antisemitic comments.
The video, which also featured AI versions of Jack Black, Mila Kunis, Drake, Steven Spielberg, and others, shows them wearing T-shirts with a Star of David and a middle finger gesture towards Kanye, with the phrase “Enough is Enough” and “Join the Fight Against Antisemitism” at the end.
Johansson, a Jewish woman, condemned the misuse of AI, stating, “I have no tolerance for antisemitism or hate speech, but the potential for hate speech amplified by AI is a far greater threat.”
She emphasized the dangers of AI misuse and its potential to distort reality. Johansson added that AI’s harmful potential goes beyond any one person’s accountability, urging the U.S. government to prioritize legislation limiting AI use to protect citizens.
She also highlighted her personal battle with AI, having previously taken legal action against an AI app that used her likeness without permission and condemned OpenAI for using her voice in a GPT-4o chatbot inspired by her role in Her.
Johansson’s stance comes amid growing concerns about AI’s unchecked growth and its potential to cause harm.
