Samsung Electronics is set to undergo a significant leadership reshuffle this week to address ongoing business challenges, according to industry insiders.

The changes, initially expected in early December, are being advanced as the company faces disappointing earnings and increased competition in the artificial intelligence chip market.

The reshuffle began Monday, with layoffs targeting executives in the device solutions unit responsible for Samsung’s chip business. The company is expected to announce its new leadership as early as Wednesday.

Chairman Lee Jae-yong acknowledged the challenges during a court hearing on Monday, stating, “We will overcome these difficult times, even though the current situation is tougher than ever.”

Samsung’s struggles include lagging behind rivals in AI chip development and a negative outlook for the global semiconductor market.

To tackle these issues, the company plans to hold a global strategy meeting in mid-December following the personnel changes.

The shake-up highlights Samsung’s urgency to adapt and prepare for future growth in a highly competitive tech landscape.
