On February 14, 2025, Sabrina Carpenter unveiled the deluxe edition of her album Short n’ Sweet, which includes a collaborative rendition of her hit song “Please Please Please,” this time with a country twist, featuring Dolly Parton. The new version of the song features a country vibe that complements the powerful duet between the two iconic artists.
Music Video References Carpenter’s Past
The accompanying music video is a nod to Carpenter’s relationship with actor Barry Keoghan, whom she dated before their break-up. In the original “Please Please Please” music video, Keoghan portrayed a character that gets arrested and tied up after a failed relationship.
In the remake, the video opens with Carpenter and Parton embarking on a road trip, only for a subtle reference to Keoghan’s character to emerge— a man in the back of their truck who’s handcuffed, wearing the same outfit Keoghan wore in the original. This moment is loaded with symbolism, hinting at the emotional ties and closure Carpenter found after the relationship ended.
Lyrics and Collaboration
While the original version of the song includes some cheeky lyrics, the new version includes a lyrical change where Carpenter and Parton sing, “I beg you, don’t embarrass me, like the others,” replacing the original “I beg you, don’t embarrass me, mother——.” This revision gives the song a fresh take while maintaining its emotional impact.
Carpenter expressed her excitement over the collaboration, writing on Instagram, “Dolly and me singing in a pickup truck!!!!!!,” alongside a video clip of the pair driving and singing. She called working with Parton an honor, as Parton has been one of her idols.
Album Success
The deluxe edition of Short n’ Sweet includes four additional tracks, including “Busy Woman,” which Carpenter debuted during her sold-out tour, alongside tracks like “15 Minutes,” “Couldn’t Make It Any Harder,” and “Bad Reviews.” Short n’ Sweet has already achieved remarkable success, topping global charts and reaching the Billboard 200.
In addition to the new duet with Parton, Carpenter continues to break records, and her career is clearly heading toward even greater success.
