The 50 major music tech brands, including BandLab Technologies, Splice, Beatport, Focusrite, and others, have signed the “Principles for Music Creation with AI”.

This initiative aims to promote the responsible use of AI in music creation and protect the integrity of artists.

    The key principles are:

    1. “We believe music is central to humanity.”
    2. “We believe humanity and music are inseparable.”
    3. “We believe that technology has long supported human artistic expression, and applied sustainably, AI will amplify human creativity.”
    4. “We believe that human-created works must be respected and protected.”
    5. “We believe that transparency is essential to responsible and trustworthy AI.”
    6. “We believe the perspectives of music artists, songwriters, and other creators must be sought after and respected.”
    7. “We are proud to help bring music to life.”

The principles aim to ensure that AI is used to enhance, not replace, human creativity in music production, composition, and songwriting.

They also call for protecting the rights of artists and maintaining transparency around the use of AI in the music industry.

This initiative comes at a crucial time when AI’s role in creative industries is rapidly expanding, raising questions about authorship, creativity, and the future of human artistry. By establishing these principles, the music tech industry is taking a proactive stance in shaping the ethical use of AI in music.

As the music world continues to evolve with technological advancements, these principles are expected to serve as a guiding framework for responsible innovation, ensuring that human creativity remains at the heart of music creation.
