Nintendo has announced the Nintendo Switch 2 in a teaser video on its YouTube channel. The console is larger than the original Switch, with redesigned Joy-Con controllers that attach differently.
A new button on the right Joy-Con remains unexplained. Nintendo confirmed a 2025 release but did not provide a specific date.
The trailer showed a new Mario Kart game and confirmed backward compatibility with most Switch games, though some titles may not work fully. Nintendo will share more details at a dedicated Nintendo Direct event on April 2, 2025.
The company also announced demo events in New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Toronto in April, with ticket registration opening on January 17.
The Switch 2 follows the success of the original, which sold over 146 million units since 2017. It faces growing competition from handheld gaming PCs like the Steam Deck.
Nintendo aims to maintain its dominance with this new console, combining backward compatibility and new features.
