Google is rolling out a new extension that connects Google Photos to its AI assistant, Gemini. This update allows Gemini to search through your images and videos to help you find exactly what you need faster.
With this feature, users can ask Gemini to search for specific photos using details like faces, relationships, or even the date the photo was taken. Gemini can also narrow its search based on your current conversation in the Gemini app, making the process even smoother.
Beyond just finding pictures, Gemini can also analyze your images. For example, you can ask what meals you had on a holiday or what themes you used for past birthdays. Gemini will scan your library and give a helpful summary.
When Gemini shows results, you can tap to open them in Google Photos or drag and drop an image into another app from the overlay. Activating the extension takes a few steps: tap your profile icon, go to Apps > Media, and select Google Photos.
However, the feature is still in early release and only available to select users in the United States for now.
This update follows recent improvements to Gemini, including support for live video and screen sharing. With Gemini now tying into Google’s most popular apps, the platform is shaping up to be a powerful hub for AI across Android.
