Metro Boomin has confirmed he is working with The Weeknd on the Canadian singer’s highly anticipated next studio album.
In a video released through the influential hip-hop outlet RapCaviar’s Twitter account, Metro Boomin stated “Me & [Abel] are working on a lot of stuff…we cooking up for his new album.”
The tweet, which was also shared by the official Spotify account, sent fans of The Weeknd into a frenzy speculating about what musical direction the two artists may take on the follow-up to The Weeknd’s smash 2020 album After Hours.
Metro Boomin and The Weeknd are no strangers to working together. Metro co-produced the track “Heartless” from After Hours, as well as “Reminder” from The Weeknd’s 2016 album Starboy. Their previous collaborations blended The Weeknd’s dark alt-R&B sound with Metro’s hard-hitting rap beats.
No other details about the upcoming album were provided, but the continued collaboration with Metro Boomin suggests The Weeknd may be further exploring a darker, more rap-influenced palette this time around. Whatever the case, the pairing of these two talents has raised expectations sky-high.
