Meta Introduces AI Memory to Offer More Relevant Suggestions

Meta

Meta is rolling out a new feature that allows its AI chatbot to “remember” details about users, such as their dietary preferences and interests.

This memory will help the chatbot offer more relevant recommendations based on past conversations and information from Facebook and Instagram accounts.

How It Works

The memory feature, which began rolling out last year, is now available across Facebook, Messenger, and WhatsApp on iOS and Android in the US and Canada.

Meta AI can remember specific preferences, like if you love traveling or follow a vegan diet. It can also pick up on important details from conversations.

For instance, if you mention being vegan after receiving a recipe with meat, the chatbot will adjust its future responses accordingly.

Personalization and Data Use

Meta AI will use information from your Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger accounts to personalize recommendations. This includes data such as your age, gender, and activity on the platforms.

For example, if you ask for family activity ideas, Meta AI might suggest a local country music show based on your location and recent activity.

Control and Privacy

Meta allows users to delete memories at any time, but currently, there is no option to opt out of the personalization features.

Meta believes that personalized experiences offer the best results. The memory feature will only apply to one-on-one conversations, not group chats.
