Kraven the Hunter experienced a significant -72% drop in box office sales during its second weekend, as reported by Deadline.
The film, which had a production budget of approximately $120 million, has grossed around $17.4 million domestically as of Sunday, December 22, and $42.8 million globally.
With major releases like Sonic the Hedgehog 3 performing strongly during the Christmas season, it seems unlikely that Kraven will recover its momentum.
By comparison, other Sony Marvel films performed better at this point in their release. Madame Web had earned $28 million by its 10th day, while Morbius grossed $57 million during the same period.
The Venom trilogy performed the best, with $142 million, $141 million, and $89 million on their respective 10th days.
Given these figures, it seems highly improbable that Kraven will achieve financial success or recoup its budget.
The disappointing box office numbers are not surprising, considering Sony’s ongoing struggle with Spider-Man-related films that lack Spider-Man himself. The film’s R rating is also likely a contributing factor to its underperformance.
