iPhone 18’s ‘Single Slab of Glass’ Vision Faces Uncertainty

Apple’s dream of a bezel-less iPhone, a “single slab of glass,” may not come to fruition with the iPhone 18.

Originally expected to achieve this design by 2026, the company has encountered significant challenges with display technology, particularly with creating a seamless OLED screen that wraps around the device.

Former design chief Jony Ive envisioned a bezel-free iPhone, with the screen flowing into the sides of the phone.

While Apple made strides with the iPhone X in 2017, progress has been slow.

Samsung’s Galaxy Edge series achieved a curved display but faced limitations with large forehead and chin areas.

Apple’s goal for a zero-bezel iPhone remains intact, but issues like waterproofing, the “magnifying glass effect” on curved edges, and screen vulnerability are obstacles.

Despite the technical feasibility, Apple is still in discussions with suppliers, and it’s uncertain if the iPhone 18 will meet the goal by 2026.
