iOS 26 Adds Hidden Wi-Fi Feature Makes Public Network Sign-Ins Effortless

iOS 26 includes a helpful new Wi-Fi feature that makes connecting to public networks much easier. The update automatically syncs login details for captive Wi-Fi networks across Apple devices.

    How the New Feature Works

Creative Strategies analyst Max Weinbach discovered the feature while testing iOS 26. When staying at a Hilton hotel, his iPhone offered to use Wi-Fi details from his iPad that was already connected to the hotel’s network.

This eliminates the need to manually enter login information on each device. Users can connect one Apple device to a captive network, and other devices will automatically receive the same credentials.

    What Are Captive Networks

Captive Wi-Fi networks require users to fill out a web form before gaining internet access. These networks are common at:

    • Hotels
    • Coffee shops
    • Airports
    • Gyms
    • Other public locations

The process typically involves entering personal information like name, email, or room number on a login page.

    Cross-Device Syncing

The new feature syncs captive network credentials between iPhones and iPads running iOS 26 and iPadOS 26. The functionality likely extends to macOS 26 as well, allowing seamless connection across all Apple devices.

This means users only need to complete the login process once. Other Apple devices signed into the same iCloud account will automatically receive the network access.

    Feature Discovery Timeline

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman first reported Apple was developing this feature. It wasn’t mentioned during Apple’s WWDC 2025 keynote last month.

MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris later found references to the feature in iOS 26 beta code. Initially, it appeared the feature wasn’t working yet.

Weinbach’s discovery shows the feature is now functional in the second iOS 26 developer beta.

    Practical Benefits

The new Wi-Fi syncing feature addresses a common frustration for Apple users. Travelers often need to connect multiple devices to hotel Wi-Fi, requiring repeated form submissions.

Business users carrying both iPhone and iPad will particularly benefit. The feature saves time and reduces the hassle of managing multiple device connections in public spaces.

Students and remote workers who frequently use coffee shop Wi-Fi will also find the feature useful for quickly connecting all their Apple devices.

    Release Timeline

iOS 26 is expected to launch in September 2025. The final release will bring this Wi-Fi syncing feature to all compatible iPhones and iPads.

The feature represents one of many smaller improvements in iOS 26 that enhance the user experience across Apple’s ecosystem. While not a headline feature, it solves a real problem many users face regularly.

Apple continues to focus on seamless integration between its devices, making it easier for users to work and travel with multiple Apple products.
