Huawei Teases New HarmonyOS PC with Fresh Design and Custom Kernel

Huawei is reportedly gearing up to unveil its first-ever HarmonyOS-powered PC during a special event in Shenzhen on May 8, according to emerging reports.

While the company has yet to confirm the announcement officially, insiders suggest that the event will serve as a platform for Huawei to showcase its vision for HarmonyOS on desktop and laptop form factors.

A Major Step Toward Independence

The upcoming PC is expected to run a fully self-developed HarmonyOS, including a custom kernel, enabling independent control over both software and hardware layers.

This marks a significant milestone for Huawei, which has been actively reducing its reliance on foreign technologies in the face of ongoing global trade tensions.

Expected Features & Vision

Richard Yu, Chairman of Huawei Consumer Business Group, hinted that the HarmonyOS PC would feature a “new form factor,” likely bringing a fresh design approach compared to traditional laptops. The device is also said to prioritize:

  • Enhanced app experience
  • Smooth multitasking
  • Seamless task continuation
  • Improved data transmission
  • Optimized UI and user experience

Huawei may also outline its third-party app ecosystem and HarmonyOS-native components, making this launch more than just a device unveiling—it’s a blueprint for a full-stack PC platform.

Official Reveal May Come Later

Although the PC might be previewed during the May 8 event, full details and a commercial launch are rumored to follow later this month.

If confirmed, this launch could position Huawei as a serious alternative to Windows and macOS, especially within China’s growing push for domestic tech ecosystems.
