Google is testing a new lock screen layout for Pixel phones in the Android 16 Beta 4 update. The goal is to create a cleaner and more organized design by rearranging the At a Glance widget.
Currently, the At a Glance widget—which displays the date, weather, and app updates—sits above or below the clock depending on its position. This can make the lock screen look cluttered. In the new design, Google has:
- Moved the date and weather below the clock when it’s centered.
- Placed them beside the clock when it’s at the top.
- Separated the third info widget (which shows alerts from apps like Google Clock) from the main At a Glance widget.
The new layout is not enabled by default in Android 16 Beta 4, but it works if manually activated. Google has not announced an official release date, but this update might roll out with other lock screen changes, like a compact notification shelf.
Google is working on several updates to make the Pixel lock screen simpler and more user-friendly. While it is unclear if this new layout will be included in the final Android 16 release, it seems likely to arrive in a future update.
