Google Gemini Live to Soon Support File Uploads for Smarter Conversations

Google is enhancing its AI assistant, Gemini, with new features to make it even more useful. Currently, Gemini Advanced allows users to upload files for analysis, providing summaries and insights based on the data.

Now, an APK teardown of the Google app (v16.1.38 beta) reveals that Google is working on extending this functionality to Gemini Live, enabling more interactive and free-flowing conversations about uploaded files.

How It Works

The new feature allows users to upload files to Gemini Advanced, where a chip labeled “Talk Live about this” appears. Tapping the chip transfers the file to Gemini Live, opening a conversational interface.

Users can then engage in dynamic discussions with the assistant, asking follow-up questions and receiving contextual responses about the uploaded document.

Once the conversation concludes, Gemini Live provides a full transcript of the interaction, making it easy to review key points.

Why It Matters

This upgrade brings a more natural and conversational approach to file analysis. Instead of navigating through menus or issuing repetitive commands, users can seamlessly interact with Gemini Live, asking detailed questions and receiving nuanced answers.

Demo Highlights

Screenshots and transcripts from the APK teardown showcase the feature in action. Gemini Live responds contextually to questions about uploaded files, demonstrating its potential to handle complex queries in a user-friendly manner.

For example, during a demo conversation, the assistant provided insights from a document and allowed follow-up questions to clarify details without the need for additional manual input.

What’s Next?

The file upload feature for Gemini Live is not yet available publicly. However, its potential to streamline workflows and enhance productivity is clear. Google has not announced a release date, but the development hints at exciting possibilities for AI-powered assistants.

Stay tuned for updates as this feature moves closer to a public rollout.
