Google Could Launch A Standalone App For One Of Pixel’s Best Features

Google is reportedly working on a dedicated app for one of the most loved Pixel features.

Hidden code discovered in Android suggests that Google plans to turn its popular “Now Playing” feature into a standalone app. The discovery was made inside Android System Intelligence, hinting that big changes are on the way.

Now Playing is a fan-favorite feature on Google Pixel phones. It quietly listens to music playing around you and shows the song name and artist right on the lock screen. Users do not even need to open an app to see what is playing.

You can find the feature in Settings under Sound & vibration. There is also an option to enhance it, which uses online search to identify songs the phone cannot recognize. It even saves a history of tracks you have heard.

Right now, Now Playing is built into the system. But code shows a new app listing under the Play Store name “com.google.android.apps.pixel.nowplaying.” There is also a notification that reads: “Download the new Now Playing app. Now Playing has a new home.”

This suggests Google wants to give the feature more freedom to grow. A standalone app could make it easier to add new tools. One possible upgrade could allow users to transfer their song history when switching to a new Pixel device.

There is no official release date yet. However, the next Pixel Drop update is coming soon, and that could be the perfect time for Google to launch it.

Pixel phones are known for smart extras that make daily life easier. Now Playing may seem small, but it is one of those simple features that keeps fans coming back. And if this update happens, it could make it even better.
