Google Chat Introduces Voice Messages for Free Gmail Accounts

Google Chat

Google Chat has introduced voice messages for free Gmail accounts, a feature previously available only to Workspace users.

This update enhances communication options for personal accounts across platforms.

Once the feature is rolled out, the send button is replaced by a microphone icon in the bottom-right corner, making it easily accessible.

Tapping the microphone starts recording immediately, with a sleek, pill-shaped interface displaying a waveform and timer. Controls are simple—users can delete recordings with a red trash icon or review them before sending.

Sent voice messages appear inline, accompanied by automatic transcripts for both the sender and recipient, similar to Google Messages. This addition ensures clarity and convenience in communication.

The feature is now live on Android, iOS, and the Gmail web app, with minor differences in the interface.

If the update isn’t visible yet, force-stopping the app might help. This marks a straightforward and efficient way to share voice memos, enhancing Google Chat’s usability.
