Google has revealed it blocked more than 1.75 million harmful apps from being published on Google Play in 2025. The company also banned over 80,000 developer accounts that tried to upload dangerous or scam apps.

Google said its goal is to protect Android users from threats like malware, financial fraud, and privacy theft. The company has increased its use of artificial intelligence to detect and stop harmful apps before they reach users.

Google also stopped more than 255,000 apps from accessing sensitive user data, such as personal information and files. These actions help prevent apps from spying on users or stealing data without permission.

The company’s system also blocked 160 million fake ratings and reviews in 2025. Fake reviews can trick people into downloading unsafe apps. Google said stopping review spam helps users make safer choices.

Google Play Protect, Android’s built-in security system, now scans over 350 billion apps every day. In 2025 alone, it found more than 27 million harmful apps from outside the Play Store. These apps often come from websites or unknown sources.

Google also blocked 266 million risky app installation attempts and protected users from 872,000 high-risk apps. These protections now cover more than 2.8 billion Android devices worldwide.

The company also added new protections against phone scams. These features stop criminals from tricking users into turning off security settings during calls and installing dangerous apps.

Google said it will continue investing in AI and security tools to keep Android safe. The company wants to make sure users can download apps with confidence and stay protected from growing online threats.
