Google’s Account Switcher Gets a Redesign — Here’s What to Expect

Gmail App

Google has begun rolling out a new full-screen account switcher menu in the Gmail app for Android, marking a significant update from the previous compact version.

This new design takes up the entire screen, similar to the web version of the account switcher. While the feature is currently only available in Gmail (v2024.11.24.x), it’s expected to spread to other Google apps soon.

The updated menu offers a cleaner look, but some users may find the large empty spaces awkward, especially in apps like Gmail that don’t feature many menu options.

However, apps with more settings and options, such as Google Play or the Google app, may make better use of the extra screen space.

This redesign will take some getting used to, as the previous overlay menu allowed for more flexibility, expanding and contracting based on available options.

It remains to be seen how the full-screen version will perform in apps with more complex menus.
