Fed Up With Grok on X? Here’s How Users Are Blocking It

    xAI - Grok

Grok, the AI chatbot linked to Elon Musk’s social media platform X, is now deeply built into the service. For many users, it feels impossible to avoid. That frustration has sparked backlash and a growing effort to block the AI from personal feeds.

X, formerly Twitter, is now closely tied to Grok, the AI system developed under Musk’s companies. Users can prompt Grok directly in posts, and its replies appear publicly for everyone to see. This has made Grok far more visible than most other AI tools.

The controversy grew after Grok was accused of generating inappropriate images when prompted. Following strong criticism from users and regulators, X moved to restrict this behavior. However, questions remain about how effective those limits are.

As a result, many users are now looking for ways to remove Grok from their timelines. One popular solution is a Chrome extension that hides any post or reply that mentions @Grok. This includes both prompts to the AI and Grok’s responses.

Tech sites report that using the extension makes X feel usable again. With Grok removed, timelines return to a more traditional flow of human posts and conversations.

Grok shares the same risks as other AI tools. Its answers are not always accurate, and it can reflect bias or generate misleading content. The key difference is that Grok’s output is public and appears directly in social feeds.

The recent backlash has forced X to introduce stricter controls. While painful, the situation has helped set early limits on how public-facing AI should behave on social platforms.

Users should note that the “un-Grok” option works best on X through a web browser. On the mobile app, Grok is more tightly integrated, and blocking it fully may be harder. For now, Grok remains a core part of X, even as debate around its role continues.
