FBI Issues Urgent Warning: Protect Yourself from AI-Driven Smartphone Scams

The FBI has issued a warning about the increasing use of generative AI in smartphone-based cyber attacks.

These attacks, which include phishing schemes, deepfake videos, and AI-generated voice clips, are becoming more sophisticated, making it harder for users to distinguish real from fraudulent interactions.

To help mitigate these risks, the FBI has provided crucial advice for smartphone users.

    Key recommendations include:

    • Hang up the phone: If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and independently verify the caller’s identity by researching their contact details online.
    • Create a secret word: Establish a unique word or phrase known only to your family and contacts, to be used in emergency situations for verification purposes.
    • Be cautious with sensitive info: Never share personal or financial information with individuals you’ve only met online or over the phone.

The FBI emphasizes that while AI fraud is a growing threat, taking these preventive steps can reduce your risk of falling victim to scams.
