Drake is not wasting any time when it comes to making new music. According to fellow OVO artist Smiley, the rapper was recording songs for his upcoming album while shooting the music video for “Nokia.”
Smiley said during a livestream that Drake brought producers to the set and used his break time to record music. “Even at the ‘Nokia’ video shoot, during a break, he had a bunch of producers and he was just recording. He’s in that crazy mode right now,” Smiley said.
He also shared another moment when Drake left a party to work on music. “We’re at a party and he was in the other room by himself eating pasta with wired headphones writing music while we have a whole party going on,” Smiley explained.
Drake confirmed the news himself in a livestream with Adin Ross, saying, “Working on a new album right now.” He also made it clear that the project will be a solo album, adding, “It’s a slap.”
Meanwhile, Drake is still dealing with legal trouble involving his record label, UMG. He claims the label defamed him by allowing Kendrick Lamar to release the song “Not Like Us.” He recently updated his lawsuit, saying Kendrick’s Super Bowl performance—where he censored part of the song—supports his case.
UMG responded quickly, warning that if Drake continues the lawsuit, he may be forced to face discovery himself. Drake’s team replied by saying he is not afraid of discovery and looks forward to questioning UMG’s top executives in court.
