Microsoft has issued a warning to Windows users about a potential issue when installing Windows 11 version 24H2 using external media like USB drives or CDs.
If the October or November 2024 security updates are included in the installation media, it may cause your PC to become unable to accept future Windows security updates.
The problem arises when users create their own installation media with the latest updates, which could lead to a “frozen” update state.
However, the issue does not affect devices that install these updates via Windows Update.
While Microsoft initially stated that only a small number of users would be affected, the issue has generated more attention than expected.
Microsoft is working on a permanent fix, and recommends using the December 2024 security update for media-based installations to avoid the problem.
This update issue adds to the ongoing challenges faced by Windows 11, which has struggled to gain traction among users.
With the end of support for Windows 10 approaching in 2025, Microsoft is under pressure to resolve these issues quickly.
