A$AP Rocky Wants Kendrick Lamar and JID to Collaborate: “I Need That Before I Die”

A$AP Rocky has urged fellow rappers Kendrick Lamar and JID to record a song together, calling the pairing a dream collaboration he wants to hear “before I die.”

The Harlem artist shared his thoughts during a recent conversation with director Spike Lee and actor Denzel Washington for GQ. While discussing his musical peers, Rocky praised JID’s skills, saying the Atlanta rapper’s flow is “unmatched” and that he and Kendrick belong “to the same cloth.”

“You would love JID, man,” Rocky told Washington. “This kid is nasty. Like, his flow is unmatched. I want to hear him and Kendrick on a song together so bad.”

Rocky, who has collaborated with Kendrick Lamar on two previous tracks, has not yet worked with JID. He described Lamar as “one of my favorite rappers of all time” and said JID is one of the few artists who can compete with him lyrically.

Washington responded by calling Kendrick a “wordsmith,” adding that his son is a fan.

JID has also expressed interest in working with Lamar. Speaking on The Joe Budden Podcast, he said he hopes to collaborate with the Compton rapper in the future.

Fans are still awaiting the release of Rocky’s long-delayed album Don’t Be Dumb, though the rapper recently released singles tied to his latest film project. Whether or not a Kendrick and JID collaboration will happen remains uncertain, but Rocky has made it clear he believes it is long overdue.
