Childish Gambino has officially announced the release date for his highly anticipated final album under the moniker. Titled “Bando Stone & The New World,” the album is set to drop on July 19, marking the end of an era for the multifaceted entertainer.
Coinciding with this announcement, Gambino has released the album’s first single, “Lithonia.” Named after a city east of Atlanta, where his critically acclaimed TV show “Atlanta” is set, the track showcases a departure from his usual style. “Lithonia” ventures into rock territory, featuring heavy guitar riffs and reverb-laden vocals, signaling a potential new direction for the artist’s swan song.
The album announcement follows the recent premiere of a trailer for Gambino’s upcoming film, also titled “Bando Stone & The New World.” The trailer, which debuted during his appearance at the BET Awards, offers a glimpse into a dystopian world where Gambino’s character navigates survival alongside a mother and her son.
To celebrate this new chapter, Gambino will host an interactive listening experience for the album on July 6 at Little Island in New York City. Tickets for this exclusive event go on sale tomorrow at 10 a.m. ET.
Following the album’s release, fans can catch Gambino on his “New World Tour,” kicking off on August 11 in Oklahoma City. The international tour will include stops in major U.S. cities before heading to Europe and Australia, with supporting acts Willow and Aamarae.
This final album comes on the heels of “Atavista,” released in May, which was an updated version of his surprise 2020 release “3.15.20.” As Childish Gambino prepares to close this chapter of his musical career, fans eagerly anticipate what “Bando Stone & The New World” will bring to his already impressive legacy.
