ChatGPT’s New Tasks Feature ― Everything You Need to Know

ChatGPT - OpenAI

Tasks in ChatGPT allow you to schedule actions or reminders for specific dates and times. For example, you can set a reminder to take your medication, get a daily weather report, or even ask ChatGPT to generate an image based on today’s weather.

This feature helps make ChatGPT more than just an AI chatbot—transforming it into an AI-powered virtual assistant. It offers you a way to schedule tasks and get automatic responses at the time you choose.

How to Create a Task in ChatGPT

  1. Open ChatGPT in the web app or mobile app.
  2. Choose the GPT-4o model with Scheduled Tasks.
  3. Type your request, including the action you want and when you want it to happen.
  4. ChatGPT will create a Task, and the action will happen at the scheduled time.

For example, you can ask ChatGPT to send you a reminder every evening to take your medicine, or to generate a weather report every morning at 7 AM.

How to Manage Your Tasks

You can update, pause, or delete your tasks in two ways:

  • Simply type an updated prompt in the same chat to change the task.
  • In the web app, click your profile icon, go to “Tasks,” and select “Pause” or “Delete” for any task you want to manage.

Notifications for Tasks

When a Task is completed, you can choose to receive an email or push notification. This ensures you don’t miss any important reminders or scheduled actions.

You can turn notifications on or off through the settings in the ChatGPT web app. Any changes you make will apply across all platforms, including desktop and mobile.

Useful Ways to Use Tasks

  • Reminders: Set recurring reminders for everyday tasks like taking medication or exercising.
  • Learning: Ask ChatGPT to quiz you on new languages or test your knowledge on various topics.
  • Daily Reports: Get weather updates, news, or any other information you need regularly.

Limitations of ChatGPT Tasks

While Tasks are a useful feature, they have some limitations:

  • You can’t use voice commands for tasks.
  • You can’t upload files (documents or images) for tasks to access.
  • Tasks are limited to using the GPT-4o model—other models like o1 cannot be used.
  • You can only have up to 10 active tasks at a time. If you reach the limit, you’ll need to delete one before adding a new task.

Tasks in ChatGPT are a great way to automate your life, whether it’s for reminders, daily updates, or learning. By scheduling tasks, you can get the most out of ChatGPT’s capabilities, making it a powerful tool in your day-to-day routine.
