ByteDance has unveiled its first AI-powered earbuds, Ola Friend, designed to enhance user interaction with the generative AI chatbot, Doubao.

Priced at CNY 1,199 (about $169), the earbuds are available for pre-order in China and will begin shipping on October 17, 2024.

    Key Features

    • Voice Activation: Engage with Doubao hands-free by saying “Doubao Doubao.”
    • Natural Conversations: Doubao can express emotions, making interactions feel personal.
    • Versatile Assistance: Helps with information retrieval, language learning, and companionship.
    • Lightweight Design: Each earbud weighs 6.6 grams and comes in four colors: purple, silver, black, and white.

The launch follows ByteDance’s acquisition of Shenzhen-based audio maker Oladance in September 2024. With over 47 million monthly active users, Doubao is the leading generative AI app in China as of September 2024.

The introduction of Ola Friend positions ByteDance alongside other tech giants exploring AI integration in wearable technology.
