Boys Planet II Contestant Criticized Over Old Hate Posts About BTS and K-pop Idols

Peng Jin Yu, a contestant on Mnet’s reality show Boys Planet II, is facing criticism after old social media posts allegedly containing hateful comments about BTS member Jungkook and members of other popular K-pop groups resurfaced.

Peng Jin Yu was introduced as an individual trainee on Boys Planet II on June 12. However, instead of excitement, many fans reacted strongly when screenshots of his past posts on the Chinese platform Weibo were shared online. The posts reportedly insulted Jungkook, as well as members of girl groups such as TWICE and aespa.

Known as a fan of BLACKPINK, also called a BLINK, Peng attracted further controversy when fans accused him of using his stan account to spread anti-BTS content during fan tensions between BTS’s ARMY and BLACKPINK’s BLINK communities. One post reportedly compared aespa members to dogs, while another mocked TWICE’s Tzuyu amid the Taiwan flag controversy, labeling the group as pro-Taiwan independence.

Fans also criticized Peng for performing Jungkook’s solo song “Seven” in a promotional video despite his previous negative remarks. Many accused him of seeking attention through clout-chasing. The backlash grew stronger as Peng did not publicly address the issue and reportedly only sent a private apology via direct message to a single fan.

As Boys Planet II gains popularity, fans are calling for accountability from both Peng Jin Yu and the show’s producers, Mnet, for allowing a contestant with such a controversial past to appear. BTS supporters continue to remain vigilant against those they believe disrespect the group’s legacy while trying to benefit from their fame.
