Apple is planning to bring satellite communications to its Apple Watch in 2025, Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday.

This new feature will let users send messages even without a cellular or internet connection.

The satellite communication feature will be available on the next version of the Apple Watch Ultra.

This follows Apple’s move in 2022 to offer satellite communication with iPhones. In November 2023, Apple invested $1.5 billion in satellite provider Globalstar to expand this service.

In addition, Apple is working on a blood pressure monitoring feature for the Apple Watch, which is also expected to launch in 2025.

This will add to the health-focused capabilities Apple has been adding to its devices. Earlier this year, the company introduced a smartwatch that can detect long-term health issues, like sleep apnea, and provide emergency responses.

Apple has not yet responded to requests for comment on these reports.
