Apple iOS 18.3

Apple released software updates for its devices today, including iOS 18.3, macOS Sequoia 15.3, and watchOS 11.3.

The iOS update focuses on changes to Apple Intelligence, a suite of features powered by machine learning.

Apple Intelligence Now Opt-In on iPhones

Previously an opt-in feature, Apple Intelligence is now automatically enabled on iPhones with iOS 18.3.

This suite of features includes notification summaries, visual intelligence on the camera, and more.

Notification Summary Changes

One of the most noticeable changes in iOS 18.3 is related to notification summaries. This feature, which uses machine learning to condense large batches of notifications, has received mixed reviews.

Apple has temporarily disabled notification summaries for News & Entertainment apps in response to concerns about the feature’s accuracy in summarizing headlines.

However, notification summaries may still malfunction for other apps like text messages and emails.

Apple has also made changes to the presentation of summaries to distinguish them from regular notifications and indicate that they are still under development.

Other Updates

The update also improves visual intelligence features on iPhones, allowing users to identify more plants and animals with their camera and create calendar events from flyers or posters.

Mac users gain access to Genmoji, a tool for creating emojis from text descriptions. Both Macs and iPads received similar updates to notification summaries as iPhones.

The update for Apple Watch includes a new watch face, while tvOS, visionOS, and HomePod software received bug fixes.
