Apple is planning to introduce a paid subscription tier for Apple Intelligence, according to reports.
While the core Apple Intelligence features will remain free, the company is looking to monetize more advanced AI capabilities through a premium “Apple Intelligence+” service.
Apple unveiled Apple Intelligence at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June 2024 as a suite of AI-powered tools integrated across iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia.
The free version will provide basic writing assistance, email management, and notification prioritization features.ย However, to access the full range of AI functionality, including more sophisticated language models, image generation, and task automation, users will likely need to subscribe to Apple Intelligence+.
The paid tier is expected to be priced as a monthly subscription, similar to Apple’s other “+” services like Apple Music and Apple TV+. This shift towards a subscription-based model for advanced AI capabilities aligns with Apple’s broader strategy to generate more revenue from services rather than solely relying on hardware sales.
Additionally, Apple plans to partner with more third-party AI providers and take a cut of the subscription revenue generated through its devices, mirroring the App Store’s revenue-sharing model.ย
This approach aims to position Apple Intelligence as a central hub for AI-powered experiences across the company’s ecosystem.
While the free version of Apple Intelligence will remain available, the paid tier is expected to unlock a more comprehensive set of AI features, including enhanced writing tools, generative image creation, and intelligent task automation.ย
Apple’s move to offer a premium AI subscription service reflects the growing importance of artificial intelligence in the tech industry and the company’s efforts to monetize these capabilities.
