Since early 2024, it’s been clear that Apple is trying to diversify its product lineup to generate new revenue streams. From the canceled car project to the Apple Vision Pro, the company is struggling to create the next big thing. According to insider Mark Gurman, this won’t be enough.
Apple has been riding high on the success of its existing products, like the iPhone and accessories, which make up a significant portion of its revenue. But to remain a leader in the tech world, Apple must innovate again, offering consumers something fresh and compelling.
Despite the quality of its products, Apple seems to have lost its touch in connecting with consumers. After the passing of Steve Jobs, Tim Cook took charge, keeping the company afloat with a strategy that involved senior employees who didn’t always work actively.
This strategy worked for a while, and Jony Ive’s design work helped Apple create some unique products. However, since Ive’s departure in 2019, Apple’s offerings have started to stagnate.
What Apple needs now is another Steve Jobs. Jobs was not only the face of Apple but also a visionary who could connect with consumers on a deeper level. His eccentric approach to product design and customer experience made people excited to try Apple’s products.
Today, even though Apple’s devices are technologically impressive, they lack the spark that once made people line up for hours just to get their hands on the latest iPhone or iPad.
Take the Vision Pro, for example. It’s a technological marvel, but many owners have simply left it sitting on a shelf. Apple’s other recent innovations, like Apple Intelligence and the upcoming smart home hub, have failed to meet consumer expectations. The company’s recent attempt at new iPhone designs, like the iPhone mini and Plus models, didn’t meet sales targets either.
Apple is now experimenting with robotics and an iPad robot, but these devices fail to answer a simple question: what problem do they solve? Without a clear answer, these new products may fall flat.
Unless Apple finds a way to reconnect with its past and reignite its innovative spirit, the company may continue to struggle in an increasingly competitive tech world. What it needs most right now is a new visionary leader—someone who can inspire and lead Apple back to its roots of meaningful innovation.
