Apple Faces Potential Delay for Siri Overhaul in iOS 18.4 Update

Apple’s highly anticipated Siri upgrade, a major feature of the Apple Intelligence platform in iOS 18, may face delays due to engineering and software issues.

According to a Bloomberg report by Mark Gurman, the new, more personalized version of Siri, expected to launch with iOS 18.4 in April, may be postponed or limited until iOS 18.5 in May.

Siri’s Upgraded Features at Risk

The overhaul includes improvements like enhanced contextual understanding and the ability to integrate with user data for more accurate responses.

One of the most impressive features, demonstrated in June 2024, was Siri’s ability to sift through emails and text messages to find a relative’s flight or restaurant booking.

However, it seems that these capabilities are still facing technical challenges, causing a potential delay.

Potential Delay Scenarios

While the iOS 18.4 update is expected to arrive for developers soon, Apple may choose to disable some Siri features in the initial release, enabling them later with the iOS 18.5 update.

Despite these setbacks, other Apple Intelligence features, such as email sorting for iPad and Mac and new image creation tools, are still expected to debut with iOS 18.4.

Apple’s Approach to Delays

Apple would rather delay the feature than release it with unresolved issues, given its central role in iOS 18’s appeal.

Although it’s not ideal to delay a feature teased nearly a year ago, the decision to ensure the software works properly before launch is crucial for maintaining user satisfaction.
