Adobe has released its AI-powered Generate Video tool for public beta. This tool lets users create videos using text or images as prompts.
It is now available in the redesigned Firefly web app, alongside new image-generation and translation tools.
Adobe first introduced Firefly’s AI video features in October, starting with the Generative Extend tool for Premiere Pro.
Now, the Generate Video tool is available for broader testing, arriving just over two months after OpenAI’s Sora launched.
How Adobe’s AI Video Generator Works
Generate Video offers two main features:
- Text-to-Video – Users can describe a scene with text to generate a short video.
- Image-to-Video – Users can upload an image along with a text prompt to guide the video’s style and movement.
The tool provides various customization options, including camera angles, motion effects, and cinematic styles.
Adobe has also improved the video quality, now outputting clips in 1080p at 24 frames per second, up from the original 720p. However, videos are still limited to five-second clips and take around 90 seconds or longer to generate.
Adobe says it is working on a faster, lower-resolution model for quick ideas and a 4K version for higher-quality videos.
Firefly AI Expands with New Features
Alongside the AI video tool, Adobe has redesigned the Firefly web app, making it easier to integrate with Creative Cloud apps like Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and Express.
The company highlights that Firefly is trained on licensed and public domain content, making it safe for commercial use.
Other new AI tools launching in public beta include:
- Scene to Image – Lets users create custom reference images using built-in 3D and sketching tools.
- Translate Audio and Video – Automatically translates and dubs audio into over 20 languages while keeping the original speaker’s voice.
Competition in the AI Video Market
Adobe faces strong competition in AI-generated video. OpenAI’s Sora offers longer 20-second clips, while Google’s Veo AI is showing impressive early results. ByteDance and Pika Labs have also entered the AI video space.
Adobe’s advantage is that Firefly’s AI is commercially safe, but it will need to keep improving quality and features to stay competitive.
New Firefly Subscription Plans
Adobe is introducing Firefly subscription plans that allow users to buy credits for video and audio generation:
- Firefly Standard – $9.99/month for 2,000 credits, allowing up to 20 five-second 1080p videos.
- Firefly Pro – $29.99/month for 7,000 credits, allowing up to 70 five-second 1080p videos.
Both plans include unlimited AI image and vector generation.
Adobe’s AI video generator is now open for public testing, giving users a chance to experiment with AI-powered video creation.
As competition grows, it remains to be seen how Adobe’s Firefly will evolve in the AI video race.
