Samay Raina’s stand-up special Still Alive has officially become the most-watched comedy special in YouTube history, pulling in a staggering 53.78 million views since it dropped on April 7.
The comedian confirmed the milestone himself by sharing a screenshot on his Instagram Stories. He asked AI chatbot Grok which comedy special holds the all-time YouTube record — and it came back with his name. The video has also racked up over 3.8 million likes and two lakh comments.
“Still Alive is the most honest thing I have ever made. I owe every view to the people who never stopped showing up,” Samay said in a statement.
The special is a raw, personal look at the chaos that followed last year’s India’s Got Latent controversy. A comment made by Ranveer Allahbadia during the show sparked massive backlash, legal complaints, and the removal of multiple episodes from YouTube. The fallout hit several creators hard — including Ashish Chanchlani and Apoorva Mukhija.
Celebrities like Archana Puran Singh praised the special, and fans online couldn’t stop talking about it.
But not everyone’s cheering. Veteran actor Mukesh Khanna hit out at both the creator and viewers in a recent interview. “Crores of TRP is not the criteria,” he said. “For that money, you are corrupting the youth brigade.”
He also took a dig at the language used in such content, adding that creators “were not taught values” if they resort to what he called filthy humour.
Samay hasn’t responded to the criticism — but with 53 million views, it’s safe to say the internet has already voted.
