Pixelfed, a decentralized, ad-free alternative to Instagram, now offers apps for iOS and Android.

The Android app launched on January 10th, while the iOS version debuted today. You can install the app from Google Play Store & Apple App Store.

The platform has seen a spike in traffic following Meta’s announcement of stricter content moderation policies.

Pixelfed’s main server, pixelfed.social, is experiencing “unprecedented levels of traffic,” prompting efforts to boost resources.

Additionally, Meta faced criticism for mistakenly blocking Pixelfed links on Facebook, a decision it has since reversed.

Pixelfed’s creator, Daniel Supernault, is also behind Loops, a decentralized TikTok alternative launched in October.

With TikTok facing potential bans in the US and Meta’s policy changes, both platforms offer appealing alternatives for users seeking decentralized social media options.

Stay tuned for updates on these growing platforms.
