In 2025, Apple plans to introduce a new iPhone 17 Air, which will be around 2mm thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro.
At approximately 6.25mm, this will make it Appleโs thinnest iPhone to date, surpassing the iPhone 6โs 6.9mm thickness.
The reduced size will be possible thanks to Apple’s custom-designed 5G modem chip, which is more compact than Qualcomm’s chips, allowing for space savings without compromising battery life, camera quality, or display performance.
The iPhone 17 Air will feature a 6.6-inch display and a single-lens rear camera. The custom modem chip will be used in multiple 2025 devices, including the iPhone SE and a low-cost iPad.
Apple is also reportedly working on foldable iPhone designs, with the new chips paving the way for more compact and integrated systems in the future.
Additionally, Apple aims to phase out Qualcommโs modems over a three-year period, introducing increasingly powerful chips for better space utilization and hardware integration.
