WhatsApp, the world’s most popular messaging app, will soon stop supporting certain older iPhone models.

Starting in May 2025, WhatsApp will require iPhones running iOS 15.1 or newer to continue using the app.

This means that several older devices that still run iOS 12 or earlier will no longer be able to access WhatsApp.

The iPhone models that will lose WhatsApp support include:

  • iPhone 5s
  • iPhone 6
  • iPhone 6 Plus
WhatsApp

These models currently run iOS 12.5.7, but with WhatsApp requiring iOS 15.1 or newer, users with these older iPhones will need to upgrade to continue using the app.

Apple’s latest updates are aimed at improving security and ensuring that users can access the latest features. If you own one of the affected iPhones, you’ll need to upgrade to a newer device or update your current iPhone to at least iOS 15.1.

Fortunately, WhatsApp offers an easy method to transfer your chat history when switching between iPhones or from iPhone to Android.

For those with iPhone 6s and newer models, you can still use WhatsApp for at least another year. The process to keep using the app is straightforward, and moving your chats between devices is possible as long as you stay within the supported ecosystem.
