Google has started rolling out the highly anticipated Gemini Extensions for Messages, Phone, and WhatsApp.
These extensions, first announced in late October, are designed to enhance user experiences by allowing Gemini AI to assist with tasks such as sending messages, making calls, and more.
Messages Extension
The Gemini extension for Messages helps users compose, edit, and send text messages. Some available prompts include:
- “Send a message to [contact name].”
- “Ask [contact name] [question].”
- “Help me write a congratulations message to [contact name] on their 25th anniversary.”
However, it cannot read or summarize incoming messages, add media, or manage notifications.
Phone Extension
The Phone extension enables Gemini to make phone calls in a conversational manner. It can help you:
- Find restaurants and call them based on reviews.
- Negotiate purchases over the phone.
- Call your contacts or businesses like restaurants or hospitals. For example, “Call the closest Thai restaurant,” or “Call my district representative.”
WhatsApp Extension
WhatsApp gets its own Gemini extension, allowing users to make calls and send messages via the app. You can:
- “Send a WhatsApp message to [contact name].”
- “Call [contact full name] on WhatsApp.”
The extension works similarly to the Messages and Phone extensions, with tasks like sending and receiving calls and messages.
How to Access
To enable these features, users need to force stop the Gemini/Google app. While these extensions are enabled by default, they may not be as widely available yet, though some devices have started receiving them.
