Apple has shared the first official adoption figures for iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, revealing impressive uptake across its devices.
As of January 21, 2025, 76% of iPhones released in the last four years are running iOS 18, with 19% still on iOS 17 and 5% on earlier versions. For all iPhones in use, 68% are on iOS 18, 19% on iOS 17, and 13% on older versions.
Meanwhile, 63% of iPads released in the last four years have adopted iPadOS 18, with 27% still on iPadOS 17 and 10% on earlier versions.
Across all iPads in use, 53% are on iPadOS 18, 28% on iPadOS 17, and 19% on older versions.
These numbers, based on devices that transacted on the App Store, show adoption rates similar to those of iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 around the same time last year.
For comparison, at this point last year, 76% of iPhones introduced in the last four years were on iOS 17, and 61% of iPads introduced in the last four years were on iPadOS 17.
These adoption rates continue to demonstrate Apple’s strong ecosystem, with iOS and iPadOS updates reaching a significant portion of users quickly.
Whether this marks the peak of adoption speed or not, these figures highlight Apple’s continued success in pushing out timely updates compared to Android devices.
