YouTube Music has officially launched its AI-powered “Ask Music” radio generator on iPhone and iPad, following its debut on Android last September.
This feature allows users to create personalized radio stations based on their specific music preferences, moods, or activities.
Once the feature is rolled out, you’ll find an “Ask for music” shelf at the top of the Home tab, offering a carousel with 10 prompt suggestions.
By simply tapping on a prompt, YouTube Music will automatically generate a custom radio station tailored to your request. There’s also a “Ask any way you like” field that lets you enter your own prompt using voice input.
Whether short or detailed, these prompts will guide the AI in creating the perfect playlist for you.
The AI radio feature works quickly, generating a new station within seconds, displaying the first three songs, and enabling autoplay. Users can save the station to their library with the “Add to library” option. A fun description of the playlist is also included.
This AI radio feature complements YouTube Music’s existing Music Tuner, which lets you choose artists, specify preferences, and filter the music experience further. You can access it through the Library tab and New FAB (floating action button) > Radio.
To use the “Ask Music” radio feature, a YouTube Music or Music Premium subscription is required.
It is currently available in the US, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia, with more countries and iOS support expected in the future. The feature is compatible with YouTube Music version 8.10+.
