WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow users to add social media links to their profiles. This feature is currently under development and will be available in a future update for Android users.
The new update, version 2.25.4.9, is now rolling out through the Google Play Beta Program. While the feature isn’t yet ready for beta testers, WhatsApp plans to introduce it soon.
The social media profile links feature aims to make it easier for WhatsApp users to connect with others on different platforms by adding links to their social media profiles directly within the app.
At the moment, Instagram is the only social media platform supported. Users will be able to add their Instagram handle to their WhatsApp profile, and the link will appear at the top of the chat info screen. This will let contacts visit the Instagram profile with just one tap.
Unlike WhatsApp Business accounts, which require verification to link social media profiles, personal users can manually enter any Instagram handle without needing to prove ownership. However, this may change in the future, as WhatsApp may introduce a verification step for personal accounts later.
This feature will be optional, so users can choose whether or not to add social media links to their profiles. If they do, they will be able to manage the visibility of the link through privacy settings.
Stay tuned for more updates as WhatsApp continues to develop this feature.
