WhatsApp has released a new beta update for Android users through the Google Play Beta Program, bringing the app version to 2.25.12.25. This update introduces a new feature that allows users to translate messages and channel updates directly within the app.
The translation feature is rolling out to some beta testers. It lets users download language packs and translate messages without needing to send data to external servers. All translations happen on the device, keeping messages private and secure with end-to-end encryption.
Once a language is selected, WhatsApp downloads the needed language pack. Users can also install a special pack that automatically detects the language of incoming messages. This is useful in chats where people use different languages.
Users can choose to turn on automatic translation for specific chats through the chat info screen or manually translate individual messages by tapping on “Translate” in the message options. Translations are not always perfect, but WhatsApp lets users send feedback about translation quality without sharing any message content.
The new feature works in private chats, group messages, and even channel updates. It is off by default, and users need to enable it manually. More language packs are expected in future updates to support even more languages.
This update is still rolling out, so not all beta testers may have access to the translation feature yet. WhatsApp says more users will get it in the coming weeks.
