A simple post on X by user Moon Dragon, asking people to “share a piece of lore about yourself,” has achieved a record-breaking 1.2 billion views, making it one of the most-viewed posts in the platform’s history.

The viral post, shared on April 1, 2025, featured an illustrated stick figure and sparked widespread engagement, with users and brands like McDonald’s sharing personal anecdotes.

Moon Dragon, who uses the handle ‘frozenaesthetic,’ revealed on July 22, 2025, that the post’s massive engagement provided significant earnings through X’s creator revenue-sharing program, helping her stay financially afloat during unemployment.

While she described the payout as “more than decent,” she clarified it was under $100,000, declining to share specifics out of sensitivity for those facing economic hardship.

However, the post’s success came with a downside. Moon Dragon reported receiving death threats and numerous requests for donations, reflecting the mixed reactions to her viral fame. Despite the challenges, she expressed gratitude for the financial support the post provided.

Analytics from Grok, xAI’s chatbot, estimate that a post with 1.26 billion impressions could generate between $10,000 and $12,600, depending on engagement and audience factors.

The viral phenomenon, which outstripped viewership of major historical events like Joe Biden’s reelection announcement, highlights the power of X’s platform to amplify content and its impact on creators’ lives.
