TSMC, the world’s largest contract chipmaker, is facing increasing competition as major customers like NVIDIA and Qualcomm consider Samsung for their next-generation 2nm chips.

The shift comes as TSMC struggles with high costs and limited capacity for its 2nm process, leading some clients to explore alternatives.

Apple, traditionally TSMC’s biggest customer, has delayed its adoption of the 2nm process until at least 2026, opting instead for TSMC’s N3P process for its upcoming A19 chip.

Meanwhile, NVIDIA and Qualcomm are reportedly eyeing Samsung’s 2nm process, with the company ramping up trial production in 2025.

Despite TSMC’s efforts to scale up its 2nm production, challenges remain in meeting demand and maintaining profitability.

Samsung, which has made significant investments in next-gen chip manufacturing, is positioning itself as a serious contender in the foundry space, attracting major clients with its cost-effective solutions.

As the semiconductor industry transitions to 2nm technology, the competition between TSMC and Samsung is intensifying.

With key players like NVIDIA and Qualcomm diversifying their supply chains, TSMC faces a critical challenge in maintaining its leadership in advanced chip manufacturing.
